About Samson Mkwanazi

Born in Africa, Samson was raised in a Christian home and surrounded himself with people who encouraged him to study God’s Word. He has not been afraid to share what he knows.

We met Samson while working the booth at Venice Beach. He was taking his day off working security at the LA Mission on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles. Samson saw the work we were doing and asked if he could volunteer his time to hand out tracts and tell people about Jesus. The following week we met Samson, gave him a stack of tracts, a few bags of fresh bagels, and, together, we handed out food and tracts—giving the Gospel to the lost.

Since April of 2004, Samson continues to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a loving, yet direct approach. It is typical of, “Hello there! Are you going to church tomorrow?” Often, the people raise an eyebrow since they are rarely asked that question! Samson then asks a series of questions, and non-judgmentally zeros in on their personal belief system. Samson is not afraid to challenge people based on God’s Word, which he reads while holding it with a firm grip in his right hand. You will also often find Samson with his hand placed on someone’s shoulder, praying for them.

Venice Beach

Many of the vendors on the boardwalk are from various South African countries. This presents Samson opportunities to relate to the African vendors in their own language! Yet, the boardwalk was not enough for this devoted evangelist; Samson saw a need on the sands along the shore. Samson noticed that all the attention was on the various merchants and tourists along Ocean Front Walk, but what about the people who sit alone early in the morning on the beach?

“The people who sit alone are often thinking,” Samson explains, “I come and offer them food and literature about Jesus Christ. They need something to think about! Their minds are often contaminated with the world’s lies—they need to know the Truth!”

The response from the people on the sand has been positive. It takes Samson nearly the entire morning to walk the shore from Venice to the Santa Monica pier, handing out Christian literature and talking with lonely people, most of whom are in bondage to the New Age Movement with satanic beliefs and ideologies.

Samson is one of the wisest men we know. He has the gift of discernment—the ability to sense a person’s spirit and respond to them appropriately. Islam is prevalent in many parts of Africa. Because of Samson’s studies in the Bible, as well as the Koran, he can reason with the Muslims. He points to their scriptures and compares the claims of Islam to the Truths of the Holy Bible.

Samson’s mission reaches far more than just the beaches of Venice and Santa Monica. He is involved at the Dream Center in Los Angeles, as well as individual mentoring for the homeless at the LA Mission.
